Comparison (this is insane)

This is an interesting snapshot of 2007.

The economy of New York (the greater metropolitan area) was 1.1 trillion in 2007.

The economy of Russia was 1.28 trillion in 2007.

The economy of India was 1.09 trillion in 2007.

That's the greater metropolitan New York area not what is geographically considered New York.

Flaming Lips flyer, Gainesville, Fla, 1989

I was at this show. It was 1989. The Flaming Lips had a fog machine and a cheesy, cheap laser light show. I remember it all very fondly. It was also the first time ever in my life I took MDMA. I did not stick with the Flaming Lips through the years. I was really into them around the time of this show and that was pretty much it. But I saw them three times and this was the first. With some bands there is only one album for me. The rest of their career has no bearing. They may very well have gone on to much grander things. R.E.M. is an example of this sort of band and Murmur, which I discovered the year it was released, was the album. Husker Dü is another one and New Day Rising was the album. Well, Flaming Lips is one of these bands too and with them the album was Oh My Gawd!!!...The Flaming Lips.

[I found this on The Gainesville Scene (1980s).]

cover of the fourth and final issue if the Surrealist journal VVV (New York), Roberto Matta, 1944

I was surprised to come across this. It looks incredibly contemporary and not at all like Matta’s paintings. It makes me think of Le Dernier Cri
